I just received my new issue of Cook’s Illustrated. The cover painting, breathtaking as always, uses gourds as its subject matter.

When I receive, in my mailbox, a time-sensitive publication with gourds on the cover, it means that fall is imminent. It makes my heart skip a beat.

katie- i completely agree! my mom just got hers and i was so excited… but then i searched and searched and found NOTHING on gourds in the whole issue. i was disappointed to say the least!

yeah, it’s funny how they do that, isn’t it? i’m gonna guess that they commission seasonal still lifes from the artist in advance, and really don’t bother with trying to match it up with the issue’s content.
i absolutely love the painter who does the covers — my goal is to own one of her paintings someday. her covers are one of the reasons i can’t switch from the magazine subscription to the online version — i can’t stand the thought of not seeing those paintings!
